Items Needed

• 1 large ear of corn
• Pocket knife
• Drill and drill bits
• Wooden branch
• Your favorite tobacco
• A lighter

Instructions

• Break the cob in half. Make sure that you use a wide ear of corn with lots of pith (cob in the center).
• Dry out the cob. Professionals let their cobs dry out for two years, but in order for you to save time, you can use an oven or dehydrator. Bake at 100 degrees for a few hours, then let it sit for a week or so to completely dry out.
• Using the pocket knife, dig out the pith. This will shape the bowl of your corn cob pipe. Make the hole at least an inch deep, and as wide as you can without making the pipe walls too thin. The thicker they are, the less chances you have of the pipe becoming hot in your hand while you are smoking.
• At the bottom of the bowl, drill a narrow hole through the pith, near the bottom of the pipe. You can also use carving tools for this if you really want to do it the old fashioned way.
• Take the wooden branch and drill a hole through the center of it. Whittle the branch with your pocket knife until it looks the way you want it to. Cut one side of the stem into a point (this is the end that you will push into the corn cob).
• Drill a hole just above the base of the cob that meets the first hole you drilled in the pith. This hole should be a bit smaller than the stem.
• Press the stem into the cob and line up the hole with the hole in the pith.

That is all it takes to make your own pipe. It won’t cost you anything except the price of an ear of corn, and if you want, you can use the niblets you scraped off as part of a delicious and healthy meal. Now, all you need is your favorite tobacco, and you can start using your hand made corn cob pipe right away.
